In Denver we care about people. We value quality of life. We take care of each other. That's why at first blush, the mandated paid sick leave policy in Initiative 300 may sound like a good idea.

But read the fine print and you'll see that Initiative 300 is the wrong approach.

Initiative 300 mandates a one-size-fits- all approach, treating a small business with ten employees the same as a large corporation with hundreds of workers.

Initiative 300 creates a mountain of red tape and additional costs for small businesses - just as they are struggling to climb back from the recession.

Initiative 300 would require a costly new City bureaucracy to oversee the program, while Denver is cutting $100 million from existing programs we care about.

Initiative 300 only applies to businesses located within the City of Denver - putting Denver at a disadvantage in attracting new employers and keeping the ones we have.

That's why Mayor Michael Hancock and Governor John Hickenlooper oppose Initiative 300 and ask Denver voters to join them in voting "No".
